Discovering the secrets of Mexico City
Colmena Seguros incentive Group Trip in Mexico
Mexico City has always been characterized by the great diversity of surprising secrets that its streets hold... be it in culture, music, gastronomy, history, folklore... this city always has something to amaze anyone regardless of their tastes or the reason for their visit!
Therefore, on this new occasion, our friends from the Aviatur agency in Colombia, brought an incentive group on behalf of an important Colombian insurance company: "Colmena Seguros". For which, they went with the expert team of DMS Mexico, to in fact, ensure that the group would have a meaningful and unique experience.
On the first day, after a long morning of flights and a warm welcome at the Mexico City Airport, we were caught up with lunchtime, so we moved directly to the Historic Center area. Once there, we left our luggage at the hotel, so we could take a leisurely walk to where we would take action against the appetite we were all feeling.

"A refreshing margarita, which not only helped us to mitigate the heat of the day, but also whetted our appetite for the menu of traditional Mexican dishes that awaited us."
At the “El Bajío” restaurant located inside what was once one of the colonial houses of the 11-time president of Mexico, Antonio López de Santa Anna, we were welcomed with a refreshing margarita, which not only helped us to mitigate the heat of the day, but also whetted our appetite for the menu of traditional Mexican dishes that awaited us.
And after our first taste of the local gastronomy, we moved back to the hotel, where we had a short break to refresh ourselves before heading out again, and.. more welcome surprises awaited us.
At the hotel reception, when we checked in and received our room key, we were immediately greeted by a colorful handmade tortillero filled with 23 different varieties of Mexican candies that helped us to continue familiarizing ourselves with the traditional flavors of Mexico, also, making it more than clear that not everything in the country is the spicy stuff.
Afterwards, we closed the day by walking to the Palace of Fine Arts, where we continued the folklore of the day enjoying the great show that is the Folkloric Ballet Of Amalia Hernandez, in which after different acts accompanied by costumes, dances and traditional music from different states of the country, it is very difficult not to end up shouting... Viva Mexico!.
Finally, we returned to the hotel to enjoy a delicious dinner and then immediately went to rest to recharge our batteries for the next morning adventure that awaited us.
"They’ll lift us into the air at more than 1313 ft, where we definitely got unparalleled views of the area that seemed a product of fantasy"
"In Teotihuacán we understood much more in detail about the functioning, structure, religion and cultures that interacted around this important pre-Hispanic city, of which, it is said that today only 10% has been discovered.... As if it wasn't impressive enough already!
"During our visit to a traditional mezcalería we learned about the elaboration and influence of this product in the local culture of the state"
The next day, we began our adventure literally in the early hours of the day, so before dawn, we headed to the vicinity of what is recognized as the first declared archaeological site in the country: Teotihuacan.
Once there, the first flashes of sunlight illuminated the spectacle of the assembly of the hot air balloons, which we were about to board, and then they’ll lift us into the air at more than 1313 ft, where we definitely got unparalleled views of the area that seemed a product of fantasy, but in reality, did nothing more than reaffirm the beauty of life itself.
After landing, it was just time for breakfast, for which we went to one of the best buffet restaurants in the area to take our first food of the day that would give us enough energy for the next part of the day.
Then we moved to the archaeological site of Teotihuacan touring through its main popular points, such as the Pyramid of the Sun as well as its interesting site museum, through which, we understood much more in detail about the functioning, structure, religion and cultures that interacted around this important pre-Hispanic city, of which, it is said that today only 10% has been discovered.... As if it wasn't impressive enough already!
We then visited an obsidian and local liquor workshop, where the group received a detailed explanation of the historical importance and artisanal processes necessary to create products such as obsidian handicrafts or the famous Mexican tequila.
Afterwards, we were reached by lunch time, so we moved to the famous "La Gruta" restaurant, where the pre-Hispanic cuisine and traditional flavors converge with the mysticism of the place, providing the attendees with a delicious and interesting experience.
And once our stomachs and intellect were fed, it was time to return happily to Mexico City, where we would make one last express stop before arriving at the hotel. Our stop was at the Basilica of Guadalupe, a religious complex where we enjoyed a guided tour that helped us understand why this religious figure is so relevant and influential in Mexican culture in general.
Finally, after a brief rest at the hotel to refresh ourselves, we closed the night with a dinner at the restaurant "Azul Histórico", where we had a delicious contact with one of the most innovative and modern proposals of Mexican gourmet gastronomy, nothing better to return to the hotel to sleep like a baby...
For our last day, we headed to the south of Mexico City, where we visited the famous Casa Azul of the iconic Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, and then walked through some of the famous streets of the scenic neighborhood of Coyoacan.
Afterwards we went to Xochimilco, where we got to know the most cultural and historical version of this area declared a cultural and natural heritage site by UNESCO, and we also had the opportunity to have lunch in one of its modern pre-Hispanic chinampas, where we enjoyed the most gourmet, natural and sustainable version of various Mexican snacks, and of course… accompanied by the sound of a festive group of mariachis!
We then returned directly to the hotel, where we had some free time to get ready for what would be our farewell dinner for the program.
During the evening, we moved to one of the restaurants with one of the most privileged views of the monument of the revolution, the “Arango” restaurant. In this establishment the flavors of Mexican cuisine merged with international gourmet dishes to make our taste buds jump for joy.
And so... with delicious dishes, incredible cocktails, and a stunning view, the group bid farewell with their last astonishing experience in Mexico City, as the next day was the unfortunate moment to return home. Yes... "unfortunate", because when you experience Mexico in this way, you inevitably suffer when it's time to leave it all behind.
